Malkia Strikers coach, Paul Bitok, has announced that he expects the Kenya Volleyball Federation to reveal the provisional squad for the national women’s volleyball team after the Africa Women’s Club Championships, scheduled for next month in Tunisia.
The continental competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious volleyball events in Africa, attracting the finest clubs from across the continent.
The Mercy Moim-captained team, Malkia Strikers, is set to compete in the Challenger Cup in France from July 25-30, which will be followed by a busy schedule.
A top-two finish in the five-day tournament will secure a place for the record African champions in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) next year.
In addition, the Kenya Queens will represent the country in the African Nations Championship scheduled for August 6-18 in Cameroon, with the Paris 2024 Olympics on the horizon.
Bitok revealed that he intends to name the initial team immediately after the club championship, with several competitions lined up and preparations needing to commence as soon as possible.
He stated, “The teams that will participate in the Olympics next year will be selected based on rankings, so we have to take all the competitions seriously,” adding that Malkia has been granted a rare opportunity to compete in the Challenger Cup and earn points for the VNL
