British tennis star Emma Raducanu, who made headlines for her stunning victory at the 2021 US Open, has announced that she will be missing the French Open and Wimbledon due to hand and ankle surgery that will require a few months of recovery.
The 20-year-old athlete has been plagued by injuries since her victory in New York, including recurring problems with a bone in both hands.
She tried to play through the pain by reducing her practice load, missing weeks of training and cutting short last season, but unfortunately, it was not enough.
Raducanu’s management team has stated that her Wednesday procedure on her right hand was straightforward, and there should be no concerns about her long-term recovery.
However, she is set to miss the French Open and Wimbledon, and her participation in the US Open remains doubtful. Her withdrawal from the Madrid Open last week came after a tense news conference where she used just 58 words to answer 16 questions, several of which were about her fitness.
