Alfred Cheruiyot, a 21-year-old from Elgeyo Marakwet County, and Careen Cheptoek emerged victorious in the first-ever Roan Antelope Half Marathon held on Saturday at Ruma National Park in Homabay County.
The gruelling race attracted numerous participants, with at least ten collapsing midway and receiving medical attention from Kenya Red Cross officials.
Notable figures, including Homa Bay deputy governor Oyugi Magwanga, Homabay Town MP Opondo Kaluma, Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino, and musician Akothe, were among the participants. Governor Gladys Wanga said that the event aims to promote Ruma National Park as a tourist destination.
The top male and female runners each received a cash prize of Ksh 250,000, while the first and second runners-up were awarded Ksh 150,000 and Ksh 100,000, respectively.
