Strathmore Swords head coach Ronnie Owino is determined to secure a spot in the semifinals of the women’s premier league this weekend as they conclude the quarterfinal games.
The Swords will play Game Two and Three on Saturday and Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium. The team is currently in a good position to qualify after a convincing 45-29 victory against the Storms in Game One last weekend.
Coach Owino said that they will take one game at a time and focus on playing a game that gives them an advantage.
The Swords are known for their transition and quick play style, and they plan to catch their opponents on the counter-attack while improving their defence.
Owino also acknowledged that they missed many baskets in the last game, so scoring easy baskets could give them an edge.
Storms head coach Abel Nson is optimistic about his team’s chances and will be relying on adjustments to turn things around.
He said that they haven’t trained much, but they had a video session where they identified their mistakes. Nson believes that it’s all about adjustments at this point in the season, and they need to increase their desire to score more points.
In another match, Ulinzi Warriors head coach Bernard Mufutu is confident of securing a spot in the semifinals when they host Eldonets Platinum in Game Two of the quarterfinal playoffs in Nairobi in a men’s premier league playoff match.
The soldiers won Game One 71-60 away in Eldoret, and Mufutu believes they have learned from their mistakes.
The weekend fixtures include UON Dynamites VS Equity Hawks – G1 – WP on Friday, Storms VS Strathmore Swords – G2 – WP, ANU Panthers VS Zetech Sparks – G1 – WP, and Ulinzi Warriors VS Eldonets Platinum – G2 – MP on Saturday.
On Sunday, there will be Equity Hawks VS UON Dynamites – G2 – WP, Zetech Sparks VS ANU Panthers – G2 – WP, Storms VS Strathmore Swords – G3 – WP, and Ulinzi Warriors VS Eldonets Platinum – G3 – MP.
