This weekend’s Kenyan Premier League action is set to be electrifying as the top two title contenders, Tusker and Gor Mahia, take centre stage across the country.
On Saturday, Tusker, who currently leads the league with 65 points, will face relegation-threatened Wazito at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu.
With only one point separating them from their closest rivals, Gor Mahia, Tusker’s head coach, Robert Matano, remains composed and focused on securing positive results in their remaining matches.
Matano emphasized, “We must stay calm and not succumb to anxiety. Our goal is not just to win the league but also to prepare for the FKF Cup finals against Kakamega Homeboyz. It is crucial for our players to maintain composure until the end of the season.”
A slip-up by Tusker on Saturday could provide Gor Mahia with a golden opportunity to take the lead if they defeat the soldiers at Moi Stadium in Kasarani on Sunday. Gor Mahia’s head coach, Jonathan McKinstry, understands the significance of claiming maximum points in their final three matches of the season.
Sources within the club revealed that McKinstry and his team received strong criticism from the club’s top management following their goalless draw against Tusker at Nyayo Stadium last week.
“The coach is undoubtedly under immense pressure to win all the remaining matches. The meeting lasted nearly two hours, and the club’s top officials made their expectations crystal clear. Any slip-up could have dire consequences for McKinstry and the players,” stated an anonymous source.
In other matches this weekend, Kariobangi Sharks will host Talanta at Kasarani Annex, while Bandari will face Sofapaka at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.
At Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, Nzoia Sugar will strive to reignite their dreams of securing a maiden title as they face a resurgent City Stars team. City Stars gained confidence after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Kakamega Homeboyz will host Mathare United at Bukhungu Stadium, and KCB will seek redemption against Bidco United.
On Sunday, Police FC will square off against Posta Rangers, and AFC Leopards will travel to Kakamega to face bottom-placed Vihiga Bullets at Bukhungu Stadium.
