KCB displayed their prowess in a thrilling match against DCI during the ongoing 4th leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation Women’s League. The action unfolded at the Nyayo Stadium Indoor arena on Saturday afternoon, captivating the crowd.
In the first set, KCB took control and secured a 25-21 victory, showcasing their strong start. However, DCI fought back fiercely in the second set, winning with a score of 25-21. The detectives proved to be formidable opponents, putting KCB to the test.
Undeterred by the setback, the bankers regained their momentum and rallied in the last two sets. With impressive teamwork and skilful plays, KCB emerged victorious with scores of 25-19 and 25-18 in the third and fourth sets, respectively.
This triumph marked their second win in the three-day competition.
Head coach Japheth Munala strategically reintroduced captain Edith Wisa into the starting line-up. The experienced middle-blocker, who led the team to glory at the Africa Club Volleyball Championships in Tunisia last year, proved instrumental in KCB’s success.
Reflecting on the match, Wisa acknowledged the team’s early success but admitted to complacency in the second set, resulting in mistakes. She emphasized the importance of learning from this experience and staying focused.
The win serves as a morale booster for KCB as they gear up for a challenging fixture on Sunday. They are set to face Kenya Pipeline, the defending league champions, in what promises to be an energy-sapping clash.
Esther Mutinda also played a pivotal role in the match, earning the starting position over Emmaculate Nekesa in the setting department. Her exceptional performance contributed significantly to KCB’s overall success.
This match marked KCB’s return to competitive play since their fifth-place finish in this year’s Club Championship in Tunisia, where they surrendered their title to Egypt’s Zamalek.
The team is determined to reclaim their position as a dominant force in Kenyan volleyball.
