Former Arsenal and Nigeria forward Nwankwo Kanu has been appointed as the chairman of Enyimba, the reigning champions of the Nigerian league, according to an announcement by Governor Alex Otti of Abia state.
Kanu takes over from Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who led the club known as “The People’s Elephant” for an impressive 24 years, during which they clinched two CAF Champions League titles.
Under the guidance of Kanu’s former Super Eagles teammate, Finidi George, Enyimba secured their ninth league title last season and secured a spot in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
In another development, John Sam Obuh, who has previously been involved with the Roma Academy in Abuja, has been appointed as the chairman of Abia Warriors, another club in the Nigeria Premier League.
