The recently concluded WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha marked a historic moment for Kenyan motorsport, with four all-female crews participating in the race.
As Kenya celebrated its 70th anniversary and FIA WRC hosted the 7th round of the calendar year, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Arts, and Sports, Ababu Namwamba, met with the Talanta Hela ladies rally team to discuss ways to grow the sport and attract youth to this celebrated discipline.
Led by acclaimed rally driver Pauline Sheghu, the ladies rally team visited Ababu Namwamba at his KNLS offices in Nairobi to explore avenues for encouraging more young people to join motorsport. The team volunteered to use their influence and positions to mentor the younger generation and attract them to the world of motorsport.
In response, Ababu Namwamba pledged continued support from the ministry and commended the ladies for their impressive performance in the WRC Safari Rally Championship.
Namwamba emphasized the importance of enhancing internal structures within the team to attract government and corporate support, thereby expanding and developing the sport further.
His commitment to the motorsport community was evident as he previously attended the GT karting championship and hosted the Kenya rally drivers for dinner at Weston Hotel after the safari rally, engaging in discussions on government support for motorsport.
With the collaboration between the ladies rally team and Ababu Namwamba, Kenyan motorsport is set to witness remarkable growth, as the sport paves the way for more young talents to shine on the international stage.
