Gilbert Andugu, Secretary General of AFC Leopards, has emphasized the club’s determination to prioritize clinching the FKF Cup title this season as their pathway back to continental football after a six-year absence.

With the club yet to secure a league title since 1998, Andugu believes that returning to the CAF Confederations Cup will be a fitting reward for the loyal support of the club’s fans.

“Winning the FKF Cup is one of our main goals this season, especially considering our current position in the league standings. It’s unlikely for us to compete for the league title at this point,” Andugu stated.

“We are eager to make a comeback to the continental stage, and the clearest route for us is by winning the FKF Cup. The entire team is fully focused on this objective,” he added.

Under the guidance of coach Thomas Trucha, AFC Leopards secured their spot in the FKF Cup knockout stage with a convincing 3-0 victory over PAC University. They are now set to face struggling Shabana in the quarterfinals.

Andugu emphasized that lifting the FKF Cup title would not only mark a return to continental competition but also serve as a celebration of the club’s 60th anniversary since its formation.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had reason to celebrate, and we are fully aware of that. Our preparations have been thorough, and we are committed to giving our loyal fans a reason to rejoice,” Andugu affirmed.

Currently occupying the eighth position on the FKF-Premier League log with 31 points, AFC Leopards trails league leaders Gor Mahia by 16 points. However, their focus remains on FKF Cup success as they strive to reignite the club’s legacy on the continental stage.
