Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) cruised into the quarterfinals of the with a dominant straight-sets victory over Zambia’s Green Buffaloes Volleyball Club (GBV) at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Arena.
In an emphatic display, KPA asserted their dominance from the outset, taking the first set 25-18, followed by convincing wins of 25-16 and 25-12 in the subsequent sets to secure their spot in the quarters.
Led by Joash Ontere, KPA now gears up to face DR Congo’s Volleyball Club Garde Republicaine (CGR) in their final Pool D clash. A victory in this fixture would propel them closer to clinching their first-ever African title, following their sixth-place finish in last year’s edition held in Tunis, Tunisia.
Meanwhile, Kenya Prisons faced a formidable challenge from Burundi’s Rukinzo Volleyball Club, ultimately triumphing in a thrilling five-set encounter at the same venue. After a narrow loss in the first set (24-26), Kenya Prisons rallied to claim the next two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-15.
However, a lapse in the fourth set saw Rukinzo seize an opportunity to level the match, winning 25-17. With the match hanging in the balance, both teams fought fiercely in the decisive fifth set. Ultimately, it was Kenya Prisons who emerged victorious, clinching the set 25-12 and securing a hard-fought win.
Under the leadership of Dennis Mokua, Kenya Prisons now faces a critical showdown against Algeria’s ASW Blida Sport Ville De Blida. This upcoming match is a must-win for Kenya Prisons as they aim to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
