The Sterling Super Cup Basketball Challenge 2024 Seniors, a highly anticipated event, will be held from October 11th to 13th, 2024, at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium in Nairobi.

More than just a competition, the tournament stands as a powerful community initiative aimed at raising awareness and support for cancer patients.

This event is a tribute to the late Job Waka, an influential figure in Kenyan sports. As the former CEO of Sterling Sports Inc. and MichezoTV, Waka dedicated his life to nurturing basketball in Kenya. His passion for the game was matched by his dedication to mentoring young athletes. Waka’s contributions spanned multiple roles, from player and coach to referee and FIBA-certified agent. His work created countless opportunities for youth, and he made a lasting impact on the basketball scene in Kenya.

Even as he battled colorectal cancer for two years, Waka’s commitment to basketball never wavered. He remained actively involved in the planning of this very tournament, up until his passing on September 3, 2024, at Nairobi Hospital. The tournament, already in motion, is now a lasting tribute to his enduring love for the game.

“Job was pivotal in initiatives that connected basketball to cancer awareness,” read a statement from Sterling Sports Inc. His efforts were widely recognized, with Kenya Basketball Federation Vice President Hilmi Ali praising him as a trailblazer who gave young players a platform to excel.

The Super Cup Basketball Challenge 2024 Seniors will feature 16 teams—8 men’s and 8 women’s squads, bringing together athletes and fans in a unified effort to support cancer research and patient care.

“Job believed in basketball’s ability to transform lives, and this tournament carries forward his legacy,” said Brian Mboya, Chief Operations Officer of Sterling Sports Inc.
