Allan Oyende wins Scrabble Kenya tournament in Eldoret, prepares for world championships

Allan Oyende has bounced back to winning ways by defeating former world champion Wellington Jighere at the Scrabble Kenya tournament held in Eldoret over the weekend.

The tournament saw Oyende win 14 out of 18 matches, using the opportunity to train for the upcoming world championships in Las Vegas, America in July.

After winning all of his first four matches, Oyende suffered a setback when he was defeated by Ugandan Edgar Odongkara in the sixth game, and then by his teammate Martins Mutahi in the 10th game, as well as losses to Panasa president Adekoyejo Adegbesan and Michael Gongolo.

Jighere, who is on a youth trophy tour in the country, finished second in the tournament, with Gongolo coming in third.

The top ten finishers in the tournament were Allan Oyende, Wellington Jighere, Michael Gongolo, Nderitu Gitonga, Edgar Odongkara, David Kimani, Adekoyejo Adegbesan, Martins Mutahi, Sheriff Malek, and Alvin Roberts.

Oyende expressed his delight with his win, saying he was finally back on track after suffering losses in the previous two tournaments.
