Atletico Madrid confirmed on Wednesday that striker Antoine Griezmann has sustained a “moderate” ankle sprain, sidelining him from upcoming matches.
The French forward suffered the injury during Atletico’s 1-0 loss to Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday, prompting his substitution by Diego Simeone in the 78th minute.
According to Spanish media reports, Griezmann will miss Saturday’s La Liga clash against Almeria and is uncertain for the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao on February 29.
However, the 32-year-old is expected to recover in time for the second leg against Inter Milan on March 13. Griezmann has played a pivotal role for Atletico this season, contributing 18 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.
