The Bujumbura Golf Club in Burundi is set to host a significant event this Saturday, as over 100 golfers from across East Africa gather for the KCB East Africa Golf Tour. Competitors will vie for a coveted spot in the Grand Finale, slated for December 6.
This nine-hole course will welcome some of the region’s finest amateur golfers. Captain Huynen Benjamin of the Bujumbura Golf Club expressed enthusiasm for the tour’s role in promoting golf in East Africa and nurturing new talent. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with the bank once again on this initiative that’s crucial for the growth of the sport,” he stated.
Marking its first venture outside Kenya, the Burundi leg will commence with an early morning tee-off at 6:30 am, followed by an afternoon session at 12:30 pm on the par 71 course.
The tour has already made its mark in Kenya, visiting various counties and engaging over 800 participants, including 500 juniors through associated clinics.
“The response from golfers has been outstanding, and we’re seeing high participation rates across the courses,” said KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru. “Our goal is to elevate golf to an elite level and cultivate the next generation of players.”
The Kenyan leg of the tour is set to continue on May 17 at the Nakuru Golf Course.
