Eldoret-based businessman Amos Butit emerged as the overall winner of the second leg of the KCB East Africa Tour at the Eldoret Golf Club despite a heavy downpour that made it difficult to navigate the course on Saturday.
Beating 112 players, Butit, a handicapped 18 golfer, carded 40 Stableford points, hitting one birdie, six bogeys, and seven pars.
Anand Lakini, playing off handicap 5, clinched the overall men’s winner award with 39 points, having carded 19 points in the first nine and 20 points in the back nine.
In the ladies’ category, Caroline Koech was named the winner of the day with 38 points, having carded 18 points in the first nine and 20 points in the second nine.
Emmanuel Mbatia, a handicapped 19 golfer from the junior category, managed to see off all his competitors, emerging victorious with 33 points.
Scola Onsongo defended her crown, winning the Staff category award with 35 points, while Michael Chebii carded 34 Stableford points, winning the guest winner award.
A group of Philip Meli, Gilbert Chebii, Grace Mary, and Jane Koech scooped the team of the day award carding 110 points and will participate in the grand finale in November.
Tony Chemweno won the longest drive in the men’s category, while Cynthia Chelugui claimed it in the women’s category.
Speaking to the media after his win, Butit said, “I started off on the wrong foot, playing terribly in the first three holes, but I managed to up my game as we progressed. I had an incredible four-ball team who were not only competitive but also encouraging. Looking forward to the Tour to come, this win has given me more reason to play golf.”
The tour will head to Limuru Country Club for its third leg this coming weekend before the Railway Golf Club edition in Nairobi County.
