Head coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck of Cameroon’s national women’s football team unveiled the 23-player squad on Monday, setting the stage for the upcoming first-round qualifiers against Kenya in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The squad boasts star forwards, with captain Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and Ajara Nchout Njoya leading the charge. Impressively, the roster includes nine players from domestic leagues.
However, there are notable absences, including first-choice goalkeeper Ange Bawou and defender Estelle Laura Johnson.
The upcoming clash between Cameroon and Kenya’s Harambee Starlets will take place at the Reunification Stadium in Douala, the country’s commercial hub, this Friday. Shortly after, the teams will meet again in Kenya for the return match just four days later.
The victorious side from these qualifiers will advance to face the winner of the Gabon vs. Botswana match in the second round.
The ultimate champion of this round will secure a coveted spot in the 2024 WAFCON, set to be hosted by Morocco.
