The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has made further adjustments to the schedule of the Under-18 women’s championship, with the tournament now set to kick off in Nairobi from June 29 to July 11.

Initially slated to begin on June 3, the tournament was first rescheduled to June 24 to provide teams with additional preparation time. However, further considerations prompted another postponement to the current dates.

Cecafa has confirmed the participation of seven teams in the championship, marking the eagerly awaited return of the event after a two-year hiatus. Alongside hosts, Kenya’s Junior Starlets, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar will compete in the tournament.

Auka Gecheo, the Cecafa Secretary General, expressed satisfaction with the inclusion of seven teams, anticipating a highly competitive tournament. The draw for the championship will take place later this week, assigning four teams to one group and three teams to the other.

As preparations intensify, Kenya’s Junior Starlets are currently conducting training sessions at the Nyayo Stadium to ensure they are well-prepared for the upcoming competition.

Following the Cecafa Under-18 Women’s Championship, Ethiopia will host the Cecafa U-23 Championship in July. Subsequently, the Kagame Cecafa Club Championship and the Zonal Women’s Champions League qualifiers are scheduled to take place in Uganda in August.

In addition to these events, Cecafa has planned the Cecafa Under-18 and U-15 boys tournaments to be held later this year, providing more opportunities for youth teams to showcase their talent and compete at the regional level.
