Celebrated Sports Journalist and Commentator Sean Cardovillis Passes Away

Renowned sports journalist and motorsport enthusiast, Sean Cardovillis, passed away on Saturday, sending shockwaves through Kenya’s sports industry.

While his employer, Capital FM, did not disclose the details of his death, several reports indicated that he was found deceased on September 9th in his apartment building’s staircase on Rhapta Road, Westlands.

Capital FM paid tribute to him on their news website, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of Sean Cardovillis, a celebrated sports commentator who brought sports to life for audiences globally.

Cardovillis was a Sports News Presenter and hosted the popular Saturday Music and Sports show. His final interview, with multiple World Champion Faith Kipyegon, was scheduled to air on the show.

Sean Cardovillis was highly respected in the sports journalism community, particularly for his profound understanding of motorsport. He conducted a notable interview with President William Ruto during this year’s WRC Safari Rally Championship in Naivasha, where he prompted the Head of State to comment on Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s controversial remarks about the media.

Apart from his motorsport reporting, Sean was an accomplished writer, but he will be predominantly remembered for his commanding presence on radio airwaves, a platform he graced for many years. His passion for sports, particularly motorsport, was unmistakable.

Over the last four years, Sean faced health challenges, spending time in and out of hospitals. Nevertheless, he successfully returned to his beloved field of sports journalism before his untimely passing.
