In this year’s New York City Marathon scheduled for November 5, defending champion Evans Chebet will go head-to-head with two-time winner Geoffrey Kamworor.
Chebet is set to return to the streets of New York with the goal of extending his unbeaten streak on US soil. Last year, he became the eighth man in history to secure victories in the Boston and New York City races.
The 34-year-old recently defended his Boston title in April, outpacing a competitive field that included world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge.
Chebet expressed his confidence as he prepared to defend his TCS New York City Marathon title, acknowledging the historical significance of achieving back-to-back wins in Boston and New York.
Kamworor, a two-time New York City Marathon winner in 2017 and 2019, will aim for his third victory. He seeks to build on his second-place finish in this year’s London Marathon.
The Kenyan contingent also features 2021 winner Albert Korir, who secured seventh place in last year’s race. US-based Edward Cheserek will make his debut in the 42km race.
Ethiopia will be represented by two-time winner Shura Kitata, along with Mosinet Geremew, Jemal Yimer, and Belachew Alemamehu Ameta, a two-time World Championships silver medalist.
Maru Teferi of Israel, recently crowned world championship silver medalist, and Olympic silver medalist Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands are also noteworthy participants.
In the women’s category, Sharon Lokedi will defend her title against a Kenyan solid lineup, including world record holder Brigid Kosgei, Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir, Boston Marathon champion Hellen Obiri, veteran Edna Kiplagat, Mary Ngugi, and Viola Cheptoo.
The New York City Marathon will mark the sixth and final leg of the World Marathon Majors circuit.
