Following her impressive silver medal debut at the Oregon World Championships last year, Beatrice Chebet is gearing up for another shot at the podium as this year’s event is set to commence on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary.

Chebet’s season has been marked by triumphs, including her World Cross Country title win in February, further bolstering her growing collection of accolades.

The 23-year-old has displayed exceptional prowess on the track, asserting her dominance in the Diamond League circuit with two victories and a notable second-place finish in the three competitions she participated in.

“I thank God for keeping me healthy this season. It has been a very good season for me so far and as I head to Budapest, I hope I will bag a medal,” Chebet expressed to the Media.

Holding the title of 2018 world junior champion, Chebet’s journey to the World Championships has been marked by a recent remarkable performance at the London Diamond League. There, she clocked a new personal best of 14:12.92 in the 5000m race, elevating her confidence for the upcoming event.

“I think I am in good shape and my prayer is to maintain this form in Budapest,” she affirmed.

With world record holder Faith Kipyegon also in the mix, Kenya is set to field a strong quartet of athletes in the 12-and-a-half lap race, joined by Margaret Chelimo and Lilian Kasait.

Chebet is optimistic that teamwork will be a decisive factor in overcoming Ethiopian rivals, led by defending champion Gudaf Tsegay.

“Of course it won’t be easy. When you look at the entry list, everyone is a top athlete and that makes the event very competitive. I think if we can work as a team, we stand a chance to win two medals or even sweep the podium,” she remarked.

Scheduled for August 23, the women’s 5000m heats will set the stage for the finals on August 26, the penultimate day of the global event.
