The Carabao Cup final clash between Liverpool and Chelsea, originally set for a 16:30 GMT kickoff on February 25 at Wembley, will now commence at 15:00 GMT following police advice.
The decision stems from the match being deemed a ‘high-risk’ fixture. Despite the switch, the EFL expressed disappointment, citing the lateness of the change.
This alteration in kickoff time marks a shift in the way police manage such events. The last Carabao Cup final to start at 15:00 or earlier occurred in 2014, with Manchester City defeating Sunderland in a game that kicked off at 14:00.
The potential impact on the Premier League match between Wolves and Sheffield United, scheduled for the same day at 13:30, may also come into play, as both fixtures are covered by Sky Sports.
