Tharaka Nithi’s recent champions, Chuka University Scorpions, and their counterparts, Chuka University Starlets, have successfully advanced to the Chapa Dimba regional finals, scheduled for Sunday at Kinoru Stadium.
In the upcoming regional finals tomorrow, Chuka University Scorpions will compete against Embu’s Predators at Kinoru Stadium.
In a thrilling encounter, the Scorpions advanced by prevailing over Machakos Boys in a penalty shootout, securing a 5-4 victory after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Robinson Muriira opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, answered by Augustino Maya in the 38th minute.
For the girls, Chuka Starlets, last year’s finalists, set up a clash with Syomunyu Secondary School from Kitui after securing a 1-0 win against Saku Queens from Marsabit. Beth Kathomi converted a penalty in the 54th minute to secure the victory.
Syomunyu Secondary School dominated the opening match, defeating Mavoko Starlets from Machakos 3-0. Lilian Vaati found the net in the 17th minute, doubled the lead in the 45th minute, and Dorcas Hellen sealed the win with the third goal.
Chuka Starlets’ head coach, Easther Robi, expressed optimism about the finals, stating, “This marks our second time reaching the regional finals, and I believe that this time, we will emerge victorious and secure the opportunity to represent the Eastern region in the finals.”
In another thrilling encounter between Predators and Galbatura United from Isiolo, Predators secured a 3-2 victory. Oscar Mugambi netted an early goal in the 4th minute, and Husein Abdirahman quickly equalized in the 9th minute. Galbatura United took the lead with a penalty, but Patrick Vundi and Oscar Mugambi secured the 3-2 win.
The triumphant teams, both in the boys’ and girls’ categories, will receive Ksh 50,000 and a chance to represent the region in the national finals slated for early next year.
