Kenyan Sports Minister Ababu Namwamba is under scrutiny by a parliamentary watchdog in response to allegations of mismanagement, as confirmed by the parliamentary committee.
Namwamba, who assumed the role in October of the previous year, is facing accusations of inadequate actions in addressing the challenges confronting the troubled national swimming association.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Youth, Sports and the Arts will provide responses to inquiries in plenary during Wednesday afternoon,” announced the parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the claims.
Kenya has been barred from engaging in any global aquatics events after the Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) failed to meet the election deadlines set by World Aquatics, starting in 2019.
KSF has encountered allegations of bias in the selection process for swimmers participating in national, regional, and continental competitions.
Last year, World Aquatics established a committee to oversee KSF, instructing the organization to appoint a new leader.
The goal is to eventually lift the ban, allowing Kenyan swimmers to partake in events like the Paris Olympics and the World Aquatics Championships scheduled in Doha for the following year.
