The Detroit Pistons made unfortunate NBA history on Tuesday night, enduring their 27th consecutive loss with a 118-112 defeat against the Brooklyn Nets.

This losing streak is now the longest in a single season in the league’s history. While the Philadelphia 76ers hold the overall record with 28 straight losses spanning the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, the Pistons’ current struggle is a significant milestone.

Detroit’s last victory dates back to October 28, during their home opener against Chicago, leaving them with a 2-28 record for the season. This losing streak ranks as the second-longest in the combined history of NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB. Pistons coach Monty Williams acknowledged the weight of the situation, expressing the need for a change and emphasizing the impact on both coaches and players.

Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, showcased an outstanding performance with 41 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, but the team’s overall struggles persisted.

Cunningham, despite his impressive individual efforts, now holds the record for the longest streak to start an NBA career without a win when scoring 30 or more points, losing all 10 such games.

Post-game, Cunningham passionately addressed the team in the locker room, urging unity and resilience in the face of mounting losses. Despite the challenging situation, he emphasized the need for realism and unity among the team.

The Pistons started the game with a strong first quarter, establishing a double-digit lead, but turnovers and deficits in the second and third quarters paved the way for the Nets’ victory.

Fans tried to rally the team with chants of “Let’s go Pistons,” but a late-game surge by the Nets secured Detroit’s place in NBA history for the 2023-24 season.

In response to chants from some fans urging the team’s owner, Tom Gores, to sell the team, players expressed disappointment, highlighting the support of the loyal fan base while emphasizing the need to stay united amid adversity. Despite the challenges, the team remains committed to overcoming their struggles and working together for improvement.
