Djokovic Backs Nadal For French Open Title
Ahead of the French Open, Novak Djokovic has expressed his admiration for Rafael Nadal, labeling him as the top contender for the title despite Nadal’s recent fitness struggles.
Djokovic, currently the world’s top-ranked player and competing in the Geneva Open on a wild card, acknowledged the open field this year but maintained that Nadal’s historic achievements at Roland-Garros make him the perennial favorite.
Djokovic highlighted other potential challengers, including Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, all of whom have secured significant victories on clay this season. However, he reiterated his belief in Nadal’s prowess at the French Open, where the Spaniard has triumphed a record 14 times.
Turning 37, Djokovic is using the Geneva Open as a preparatory event to regain his form before defending his French Open title. Without any titles this season, a rarity since 2018, Djokovic aims to change that in Geneva as a prelude to his Grand Slam campaign in Paris.
