Serbian tennis maestro Novak Djokovic is set to clash with Italian sensation Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinal, bolstered by the assurance that he will retain his world number one ranking following the unexpected exit of Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic, eyeing his 11th Australian Open title and a historic 25th Grand Slam crown, faces the formidable Sinner in the afternoon session on Rod Laver Arena.

The 36-year-old Djokovic, despite expressing discomfort due to oppressive heat in previous matches, is determined to extend his impressive 33-match unbeaten streak at Melbourne Park. With temperatures expected to be cooler, Djokovic aims to maintain his dominance on the renowned court.

Reflecting on his achievements, Djokovic acknowledged the significance of his unbeaten streak, stating, “The longer the streak goes, the more that kind of confidence, also expectations built, but also the willingness to really walk the extra mile, so to say.”

Notably, Djokovic’s status as world number one remains secure, as Alcaraz’s quarter-final defeat ensures Djokovic’s continued hold on the top spot. Additionally, if Daniil Medvedev claims the title, he will ascend to the world number two position.

Jannik Sinner, the Italian fourth seed, enters the semifinal in peak form, having previously defeated Djokovic in late-season competitions. Sinner, aiming for his maiden Grand Slam title, recognizes the challenge but expresses eagerness for the intriguing matchup.

“I’m looking forward to it, to be honest. It’s going to be tough,” remarked the 22-year-old.

In the other semifinal, sixth seed Alexander Zverev, following his upset victory over Alcaraz, faces Russian third seed Daniil Medvedev. Zverev, seeking his first Grand Slam title, acknowledges the difficulty of playing against the formidable Medvedev, who is determined to secure his maiden Australian Open title after reaching the final in 2021 and 2022.

The stage is set for captivating clashes as these top-tier players vie for a coveted spot in the Australian Open final.
