Djokovic Pulls Off US Open Escape As Gauff Nears Swiatek Battle

Novak Djokovic overcame a two-set deficit against compatriot Laslo Djere to advance to the last 16 of the US Open in a remarkable comeback.

Djokovic, a favourite for the tournament, secured a 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 victory against the 32nd-seeded Djere, demonstrating his trademark resilience.

Djokovic, who is seeking his 24th Grand Slam title, risked an early exit from the tournament after losing the first two sets. He will face Croatian qualifier Borna Gojo in the next round.

In another thrilling match, American tennis sensation Coco Gauff fought her way to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Belgium’s Elise Mertens. Gauff, who recently won titles in Washington and Cincinnati, showed her determination to win. She will face Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland dominated her match against Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan, winning 6-0, 6-1 in just 49 minutes.

Swiatek is bidding to become the first woman to successfully defend her US Open title since Serena Williams achieved the feat from 2012 to 2014. She will face Jelena Ostapenko in the next round.

The men’s draw saw American Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Ben Shelton advance to the last 16, aiming to become the first American male Grand Slam champion since Andy Roddick in 2003.

Fritz defeated Czech qualifier Jakub Mensik, Tiafoe overcame France’s Adrian Mannarino, Paul won against Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Shelton defeated Aslan Karatsev.

Other notable results include Sorana Cirstea defeating fourth seed Elena Rybakina, Karolina Muchova winning against Taylor Townsend, and Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker continuing his impressive run.

The US Open continues to feature strong home interest in the men’s draw, with several American players advancing in the tournament.

Djokovic’s remarkable comeback keeps his quest for a record-extending 24th Grand Slam title alive, while Gauff and Swiatek showcase their talent and determination on the court.
