The team’s loyal fans, however, showcased their unwavering support, understanding the importance of uplifting their beloved club in the face of a painful setback.
Tens of thousands of passionate supporters flocked to the Dortmund arena, hoping for a victorious home match against Mainz that would secure their first league title since 2012. Unfortunately, they were left disappointed as the match ended in a 2-2 draw, falling short of their championship aspirations.
Former German international, Mats Hummels, expressed the overwhelming frustration within the team, acknowledging the missed opportunity and the bitter taste of losing the title to Bayern Munich based on goal difference despite finishing with the same points tally.

Terzic acknowledged the hardships faced throughout the season, including the shock of Sebastien Haller’s cancer diagnosis the previous summer, describing it as the second most difficult setback they encountered.
Nonetheless, he emphasized the team’s resilience and the bond formed with the supporters, despite the ultimate disappointment.
Looking ahead, the Dortmund coach promised another spirited pursuit of the national championship in the next season, firmly believing that the team is on a promising trajectory.
