Egypt edged past Burkina Faso with a 2-1 victory in Cairo, thanks to a stellar performance by Mahmoud Trezeguet who netted two early goals in a thrilling World Cup qualifier.

Mohamed Salah, back from a hamstring injury, assisted the opening goal, marking a successful return to the national team. Despite Lassina Traore’s goal for Burkina Faso in the second half, Egypt maintained their lead and now sit comfortably atop Group A, four points clear.

Guinea-Bissau’s unexpected draw against Ethiopia has set the stage for their upcoming encounter with Egypt, who are looking to maintain their perfect record in the qualifiers.

In other matches, Senegal’s hopes of topping Group B were dashed by a late equalizer from the Democratic Republic of Congo, leaving them trailing behind Sudan.

Meanwhile, Ghana staged a comeback to secure a win against Mali, catapulting them to second place in Group I.

Libya’s triumph over Mauritius, despite being a man down, has propelled them to the summit of Group D. Under the guidance of Serbian coach Milutin Sredojevic, Libya is showing strong form in the qualifiers.

Malawi also clinched a victory over Sao Tome e Principe, narrowing the gap with Group H leaders Tunisia. The match between Congo Brazzaville and Niger was postponed due to a venue dispute, highlighting the challenges faced in organizing international fixtures.
