Information and Communication Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has announced that a selected group of 22 players from the ongoing Eliud Owalo Super Cup will engage in an exhibition match against the 20-time KPL champions Gor Mahia. The exhibition match is set for Saturday at the Nyilima Grounds in Asembo, Siaya County.
The five-day tournament, supported by the CS through the Eliud Owalo Foundation, aims to cultivate talent at the grassroots level.
The tournament will conclude on Thursday evening at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo, with a final showdown between Kisumu and Homa Bay combined teams.
Owalo expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s results, emphasizing the identification and nurturing of talents as its primary objective. A technical committee, led by Tobias Ochola, James Goro Oronge, Gerald Omolo, and others, is actively identifying the two best players in each position.
This process will lead to the formation of a Nyanza combined team scheduled to face Gor Mahia on December 30 at Nyilima Stadium in Asembo, Rarieda Sub-County.
The participating teams represent four counties from the Nyanza region, namely Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, and Migori.
Homa Bay secured a spot in the final by defeating Migori 2-1 at the Raila Odinga Stadium, while Kisumu dominated Siaya 3-0 to secure their place in the final. The ultimate winner of the tournament is set to receive a cash prize of Sh.1 million.
The third-place play-offs will feature Siaya County against Migori County at the same venue before the final fixture.
