Kenya’s volleyball teams, Equity Bank and Kenya Prisons, faced setbacks on the fourth day of the Africa Volleyball Club Championships in Egypt, with both teams experiencing defeats.
Equity Bank was unable to secure a win against Morocco’s Fath Union Sports (FUS), falling in three straight sets with scores of 22-25, 15-25, and 16-25. This loss contrasted with their opening match victory against Cote d’Ivoire’s Green Volleyball Club, where they dominated with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-15.
Kenya Prisons, returning to the competition after a six-year hiatus, started strong with a first-set win of 25-23 against Algeria’s ASW Blida.
However, the Algerian team took control in the following sets, winning 25-23, 25-23, and 25-20, marking the second loss for Kenya Prisons in the tournament. Their journey had begun with a 3-1 loss to Cameroon’s Porte Autonome de Douala, followed by a convincing 3-0 victory over Rwanda’s Gisagara.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), another Kenyan contender, maintains a perfect record in the tournament and is set to face Ivory Coast’s Volleyball Club Garde Republicaine.
KPA’s successful run includes a 3-1 win against Rwanda’s Police Volleyball Club and a 3-0 victory over Zambia’s Green Buffaloes, securing their spot in the knockout stages.
