Equity Hawks Fall to REG in WBLA as Group Stage Intensifies

Defending champions of Kenya’s National Women’s Basketball League, Equity Hawks, suffered an 86-73 defeat to Rwanda’s REG in the ongoing Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) championships in Tanzania.

Equity got off to a rocky start, trailing in the first quarter 14-25 and continuing their struggle into the second quarter, where they were outscored 21-25. By halftime, REG held a commanding lead with a score of 50-35.

The second half saw a renewed effort from Equity, as they fought back to claim the third quarter 22-18, narrowing the gap. However, REG rebounded in the fourth, edging out Equity 18-16 to secure an 86-73 victory at the final buzzer.

In their opening match on Sunday, the Equity Hawks showcased their strength with a decisive 73-57 win over Burundi’s Gladiators in Group C. They will complete their group stage campaign with a match against Tanzania’s Fox Divas on Tuesday, where they aim to solidify their position in the tournament.

Meanwhile, REG began their Group C journey in style, overpowering Fox Divas with an impressive 105-48 victory.

They will face Gladiators of Burundi on Tuesday to conclude their group matches, setting the stage for a highly competitive tournament. Both teams are pushing hard to secure their spots as they advance through the championship.
