Equity Hawks emerged victorious against Strathmore Swords in a recent match of the Kenya Women’s Basketball Premier League, with a final score of 63-32.

However, despite the win, Head Coach David Maina has called upon his players to improve their game’s momentum and start matches stronger.

Coach Maina acknowledged that his team had a slow start in the first half of the game against Strathmore Swords, trailing behind by halftime. However, they were able to regroup and perform better in the second half, ultimately securing a convincing win.

As the playoffs approach, Coach Maina emphasized the importance of starting games strong and maintaining consistency throughout.

Equity Hawks finished the regular season in second place with 41 points, winning 19 matches and losing three. Silalei Shani was a standout player in the match against Strathmore Swords, scoring 15 points, followed by the experienced Betty Kananu with 12 points, and Captain Mellissa Akinyi with 10 points.

In another match, Zetech Sparks had a mixed weekend, losing to defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) with a score of 44-52 on Saturday, but bouncing back with a dominant win of 60-37 against Storms on Sunday.

Despite the challenges of exams and school closure, Zetech Sparks’ Head Coach Maurice Obilo was impressed with his team’s performance and considered it a good build-up for the upcoming playoffs.

Meanwhile, KPA finished the regular season undefeated, winning all 22 of their matches and defending their championship title.

Other notable results from the weekend included KU Pirates defeating ANU Wolfpacks 80-59 in the MP category, and JKUAT LYNX falling to KPA with a score of 21-81 in the WP category.

As the playoffs draw near, teams and coaches are gearing up for the challenges ahead, aiming to bring their best performances to claim the coveted title in the Kenya Women’s Basketball Premier League.

Coach Maina’s call for improved momentum serves as a reminder to all teams that every game counts, and starting strong are crucial for success in the playoffs.
