After a lengthy hiatus from the ring, Fatuma ‘Iron Fist’ Zarika is set to defend her World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Featherweight title.
Zarika secured the coveted title in November 2020 with a unanimous points victory over Patience Mastara of Zimbabwe in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The two-time World Boxing Council (WBC) World Super Bantamweight champion will put her glittering belt on the line in a ten-round clash against Tanzanian boxer Fatuma Omari.
The highly anticipated fight night, named the Betika Ultra Fight Series Boxing, is scheduled for October 27 at the Broadwalk Mall along Ojijo Road in Parklands.
The event, featuring 11 bouts, is promoted by Maurice Odera of Ultra Fight Series Boxing and will also include the World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title bout between Albert Kimario and Grey Chimkwapulo of Malawi.
Zarika, who has diligently prepared for her comeback, expressed her excitement about finally defending her title on home turf. During her three-year hiatus, she focused on maintaining her fitness through rigorous training, including running, weightlifting, and sparring. Now, she is concentrating on honing her speed, footwork, and self-defence skills under the guidance of her coach, Marvin Obuya, at Vision Plaza Gym along Mombasa Road.
While Zarika is confident in her preparations, she refrains from studying her opponent too closely to avoid unnecessary pressure. Instead, she promises her fans an unforgettable performance in the ring.
Zarika’s successful defence of the WBF belt could pave the way for her to regain her WBC World Super Bantamweight title for the third time. Promoter Maurice Odera aims to leverage Zarika’s fame to nurture upcoming boxers like Albert Kimario.
The main event promises to be an intense showdown, as Zarika’s opponent, Fatuma Omari, boasts an impressive record and is known for her aggressive fighting style and strong punching ability.
The sponsorship provided by gaming company Betika has been crucial in making this fight happen, given the significant costs associated with defending a title.
Ticket prices for the event are available online at ticketsasa.com, with general tickets priced at Sh1000 in advance and Sh1500 at the gates, while ringside VIP tickets are priced at Sh3500 in advance and Sh4500 at the gates.
