Isaac Omurwa, the 18-year-old brother of Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala, has been selected to join Team Kenya at the upcoming East Africa U18/U20 Championships in Dar Es Salaam.
After passing his form four exams at Alliance High School last year, Omurwa was among the 15 athletes chosen for the Under-20 event following a two-day trial at Nyayo National Stadium.
Omurwa secured his spot after winning the men’s 100m trials in 10.85 seconds.
He will join Sebastian Kakaya and Sammy Kiplagat in the 400m, Brian Kiptum and Wesley Kibet in the 800m, and Justus Nyamai in the 5,000m. Omurwa’s participation in the competition marks his first international appearance.
On March 14-17, Kenya will field 29 athletes to participate in the regional show. Athletes from Kenya, Uganda, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda will come together for the regional meeting.
