Ferrari’s Sporting Director Leaves For Alpha Tauri

Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, the Ferrari team has announced major changes. Sporting director Laurent Mekies has parted ways with Ferrari and will not be present by the end of this week, as he has taken a new role at Alpha Tauri, replacing Franz Tost in the coming year.

Laurent will join Alpha Tauri as the team principal after playing a crucial role as Scuderia Ferrari’s sporting director for four and a half seasons.

A statement issued by Scuderia Ferrari on Thursday confirmed the news of Laurent’s departure. “Laurent Mekies’ time at Scuderia Ferrari comes to an end this week.

The racing director will not be in Belgium, and he leaves Maranello after four and a half seasons during which the team took seven wins. The entire team thanks him for his great contribution during those years,” Scuderia Ferrari published.

Ferrari went ahead to announce Laurent’s replacement, stating that from the upcoming race in Belgium, part of Laurent’s duties will be carried out by Diego Lorerno, who now takes the role of Scuderia Ferrari’s Sporting Director.

Lorerno is a veteran of the team, having served as a member for the past 23 years. The statement also included some of the key members the new Sporting Director will work with. He will also be responsible for all sporting matters.

“Lorerno is a veteran member of the Scuderia, having worked in Maranello for the past 23 years. Along with his colleagues on the pitfall, Mateo Togninalli (Head of Track Engineering) and Ravin Jain (Race Strategist), he will report directly to Team Principal, Fred Vasseur,” Scuderia Ferrari’s statement further read.

Ferrari currently sits fourth in the constructor’s championship with two podiums in their sleeve, all thanks to Charles Leclerc.”
