Kenya will welcome the MXGP Academy for the first time from August 2-4. Launched in 2015, the MXGP Academy is a global initiative in collaboration with the Motocross Training Club (MTC), the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), and local motorsport federations, including the Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK).
This program aims to attract and retain talented motocross riders through educational programs, MX skills training, and training camps.
The MXGP Academy is designed to support both young and advanced motocross athletes, providing them with a constructive approach to their careers. A crucial component of the program is the educational aspect, which is essential for the future success of motocross and in attracting and retaining global talent.
Kenya’s focus is on building and equipping a pool of qualified trainers who can develop skilled and competitive riders. The MXGP Training will be a significant milestone for the Motorcycle Federation of Kenya, thanks to the support from FIM, which is sending two top professional trainers for the program.
The MXGP Academy weekend will feature workshops, seminars, and panel meetings for parents, riders, and federation representatives involved in motocross, providing a holistic approach to talent development.
Renzo Bernardi, president of the MSFK, said, “We have been working to bring professional trainers to the country since 2022 with the support of FIM. The MXGP Academy program encompasses not just the riders but also the support structure around the riders – trainers, parents, and officials.”
Over the past three months, the MSFK has been selecting and equipping local trainers, parents, and officials through various training programs to prepare for this upcoming training. Bernardi added, “This program focuses on creating standardized training programs and a unified point system globally aligned to MXGP/MTC.”
The key objectives of this initiative are to support new talented MX-riders, especially in countries lacking connections to major races like the European or World Championships. The initiative also seeks to offer equal opportunities to MX-riders worldwide and reach 100 MTC destinations globally by the end of 2025.
The track session on Sunday, August 4, will offer practical hands-on training for both trainers and riders, marking a significant step in Kenya’s motocross development journey.
