Liverpool asserted their dominance with a commanding 5-1 victory over Sparta Prague in the Europa League, while Roma delivered a stunning 4-0 win against Brighton in their respective matches on Thursday.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool displayed no signs of distraction ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester City, as they secured a comfortable win in the first leg of their Europa League tie.
Despite injury concerns, Liverpool’s strong lineup proved effective, with Alexis Mac Allister converting a penalty early on. Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz further extended Liverpool’s lead, before a brief setback saw Conor Bradley scoring an own goal for Sparta Prague. Mohamed Salah made a return from injury, but it was Dominik Szoboszlai who sealed the win with a late goal.
Meanwhile, Roma continued their impressive form under Daniele De Rossi’s management, thrashing Brighton 4-0. Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku put Roma ahead in the first half, followed by goals from Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante in the second half.
Even with a challenging trip for Brighton, characterized by off-field incidents, they were unable to overcome Roma’s dominance on the pitch.
In another fixture, AC Milan secured a 4-2 win against Slavia Prague, capitalizing on an early red card for Slavia defender Malick Diouf. Olivier Giroud, Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Christian Pulisic found the net for Milan, while Slavia Prague managed to score two consolation goals.
Elsewhere, Benfica and Rangers played out a 2-2 draw, leaving the tie finely poised for the second leg. West Ham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Freiburg, while Marseille cruised to a 4-0 victory over Villarreal, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring twice.
