The Football Kenya Federation has announced Mildred Cheche as the new head coach for the Junior Starlets in preparation for the upcoming Under-17 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.

Cheche, currently serving as the assistant coach for the senior team Harambee Starlets, will be tasked with assembling and leading the squad in their first match scheduled for February 4, less than three weeks away.

Former Starlets captain Anne Aluoch, who currently serves as the national Under-15 head coach, will assist Cheche in coaching the Junior Starlets. The team is set to face DR Congo in an away match on February 4th and a home match on February 11th, 2024.

Last month, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba instructed the Federation to ensure Kenya participates in the U17 World Cup qualifiers, using the recently concluded Talanta Hela Under-19 tournament as a scouting ground for potential players.

Cheche is expected to announce her interim squad soon to commence training in preparation for the upcoming matches against DR Congo.
