The grand finale is scheduled for Friday, December 20, at Dandora Stadium, promising a showdown that football fans across Nairobi are eagerly anticipating.
Githurai All-Stars secured their place in the final after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Shauri Moyo in the Nairobi East regional final. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams exchanging goals in a fiercely contested encounter.
Githurai’s captain Kevin Njuguna opened the scoring with a fourth-minute penalty, but Shauri Moyo’s Abednego Wawire equalized with a stunning strike in the 16th minute. Edwin Ng’ang’a restored Githurai’s lead in the 30th minute, only for Wawire to level again in the 42nd minute. The defending champions sealed their victory when Ng’ang’a slotted home from close range in the 56th minute, setting up a tantalizing rematch against Kawasaki Sports.
Kawasaki booked their slot in the final with a 1-0 win over South C Rangers in the Nairobi West regional final, courtesy of a decisive goal from Ali ‘Aguero’ Maleche. Earlier in the day, Kawasaki had overcome Asec Huruma 4-3 on penalties in a rescheduled match following disruptions in the previous round.
Women’s Final: South C Queens vs. Shrink Pack FC
The women’s Sakaja Super Cup final will feature a fresh face as South C Queens take on Shrink Pack FC for the championship.
South C Queens displayed their dominance with a 3-1 victory over Nairobi Starlets in the Nairobi West regional final. Maureen Omekede was the star of the match, scoring a brace, including a spectacular long-range effort in the 24th minute. Margaret Omweri added a third goal in the 32nd minute to secure their place in the final.
In the Nairobi East regional final, Shrink Pack FC edged out Soweto Starlets with a hard-fought 2-1 win. Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime after Sylvia Apondi’s 45th-minute strike, Shrink Pack mounted a spirited comeback with Mary Kimani netting a decisive brace in the second half.
The men’s champions will walk away with a grand prize of KSh 3 million, while the runners-up will pocket KSh 2 million, and the third-place team will receive KSh 1 million.
In the women’s category, the winners will claim KSh 1 million, with KSh 500,000 for the runners-up and KSh 250,000 for the third-place finishers.
