KCB FC, a prominent team in the FKF Premier League, has undergone significant changes in both its squad and leadership. In an announcement made on Friday, experienced goalkeeper Gabriel Andika has been appointed as the new captain of the team.
This decision comes as a result of changes within the squad and the sidelining of Michael Mutinda due to a knee injury sustained in April. Andika will receive support from deputy captains Brian Ochieng and Maurice Ajwang.
The club has also revealed the completion of signings for five new players, enhancing its roster for the upcoming season. Among the new signings is striker Derrick Otanga, who rejoins KCB FC from Police FC. The other additions include goalkeeper Brian Olang’o from Mathare United, winger Stephen Etyang from Ulinzi Stars, defender Bernard Odhiambo from Bandari FC, and defender Herit Mungai from Nairobi City Stars.
KCB FC is set to kick-start its new campaign on September 1st at the Kasarani Stadium, facing AFC Leopards. This follows the postponement of their clash against Kakamega Homeboyz which was initially scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
During a signing ceremony held on Friday morning, Elvis Ayani, Assistant Coach of KCB FC, expressed the team’s enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Ayani mentioned, “The boys are highly motivated ahead of the new season and we cannot wait to get underway. We have been preparing for it with the new boys coming in. Otanga, who is an old KCB boy, knows the team well and he has been gelling well with the squad.”
After finishing 5th in the previous season, KCB FC aims to reverse its fortunes with the infusion of fresh talent and the guidance of the new technical bench under the leadership of coach Mwalala.
Derrick Otanga, who previously showcased his prowess as the top scorer of the 2021/22 FKF Premier League season, is especially eager about returning to KCB FC.
He shared his excitement, stating, “I am very happy to be back home after my short stint at Police. This is a place I know very well and even though I have not worked under coach Mwalala before, he has been instrumental in enabling us to settle in with the rest of the squad. There is of course enormous pressure for me to bag the goals and hopefully help KCB lift this season’s title.”
With Otanga’s track record and local talent, he aspires to contribute significantly to KCB FC’s pursuit of securing its first Kenya Premier League title.
