Gor Mahia secured all three points in a thrilling league encounter against Mathare United, claiming a 2-1 win at Dandora Stadium.
Despite a sluggish start, Mathare United took an early lead through a brilliant strike from winger Elly Asieche, injecting confidence into the Slum Boys. Gor Mahia, however, squandered a golden opportunity to equalize after Shariff Musa delivered a well-timed cutback, only for the chance to go begging.
The Green Army eventually found their breakthrough in the 35th minute, with Alphonce Omija converting from a set piece to restore parity before halftime.
The second half saw Mathare United adopt a deep defensive approach, making it difficult for Gor Mahia to break through. However, a defensive lapse from Mathare gifted Gor a penalty, which Enock Morrison calmly slotted home to secure victory.
With this win, Gor Mahia remains in third place with 34 points, just four behind joint league leaders Police FC and Tusker, who were held to a goalless draw in Machakos. Meanwhile, Mathare United, sitting 14th in the standings, will look to climb into mid-table as the season progresses.
