Gor Mahia FC overcame a final-day scare against Nairobi City Stars to secure a resounding 4-1 victory and claim their record-extending 20th FKF Premier League title in a thrilling showdown at the Kasarani Stadium.

Entering the final day with a one-point lead over defending champions Tusker, Gor Mahia needed a win against City Stars to guarantee their triumph in a fiercely competitive season.

Regardless of falling behind to Samuel Kapen’s opener in a goalless first half, they rallied back with great determination.

Benson Omalla, Peter Lwasa, Austin Odhiambo, and Alpha Onyango all found the back of the net, propelling Gor Mahia to a convincing victory and sealing the league title in style.

Meanwhile, Tusker FC put on a formidable display in their final FKF Premier League match of the season, routing Vihiga Bullets 4-0 at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County.

Deogratius Ojok opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a powerful header from Siwa Shaphan’s cross. Shami Mwinyi doubled the lead just before halftime with a precise right-footed curler.

In the second half, Tusker coach Robert Matano made several tactical changes that paid off handsomely. Striker Stewart Omondi netted a brace in the 83rd and 86th minutes, securing three crucial points for the brewers.

Although Tusker emerged victorious, their efforts were not enough to retain the league title, conceding it to Gor Mahia, who triumphed with an impressive 4-0 win against Nairobi City Stars.

Reflecting on the season, Matano admitted that crucial points dropped against Wazito FC and Posta Rangers ultimately cost them the championship. However, he remained optimistic and shifted focus to the league cup finals against Kakamega Homeboyz.

On the other side, Vihiga Bullets coach Milton Kidiga acknowledged his team’s valiant effort but conceded defeat to a superior opponent.

Gor Mahia FC’s remarkable achievement in securing their 20th FKF Premier League title marks a significant milestone in Kenyan football, capping off a memorable and fiercely contested season.
