The 2024 WRC Safari Rally is set to take place amidst the picturesque Naivasha terrain from March 29th to 31st, drawing over 100 local and international drivers from various corners of the globe.
During the launch of their sponsorship package for the event in Nairobi, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba unveiled plans for the Kenyan government, through Talenta Hela, to inaugurate the Kenya School of Rallying coinciding with the race dates, aimed at fostering the sport’s growth within the country.
Meanwhile, KCB announced a sponsorship package worth Ksh195 million for the rally, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s contribution.
“We have raised our support by an additional Ksh95 million this year, emphasizing the group’s dedication to not only backing WRC but also promoting sports in general,” affirmed KCB Group CEO Paul Russo.
Ababu Namwamba echoed this enthusiasm, emphasizing the event’s importance in solidifying Kenya’s position on the global sporting stage. “We eagerly anticipate an event infused with Kenyan essence. This year, we anticipate a higher representation of Kenyan drivers compared to previous editions, where foreign drivers have predominantly featured,” remarked Namwamba.
In a departure from tradition, the rally will coincide with the Easter period, a shift from its usual June scheduling. Namwamba explained that this decision aims to maximize attendance by rally enthusiasts, capitalizing on the holiday season.
“The adjustment in timing was a strategic move to ensure greater fan turnout, leveraging the holiday period when a significant portion of the populace will have the opportunity to attend,” elaborated Namwamba.
