Government to Prioritize Gender Equality in Sports, Says Ababu
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba emphasized the government’s commitment to closing the gender gap in sports during a visit to the Harambee Starlets training camp at Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday.
Namwamba, an advocate for equity and equality, urged for equal support for women’s teams, emphasizing that the backing given to male teams should be extended to female counterparts.
Namwamba announced a substantial prize purse of Sh5 million for the Harambee Starlets if they secure victories against Botswana in both home and away matches.
He emphasized that the same incentives offered to Harambee Stars, the men’s team, should be available to the women’s team. Namwamba acknowledged Botswana as a formidable opponent, highlighting their status as a World Cup team and the presence of top-performing players in the women’s Champions League.
Despite the tough competition, Namwamba expressed confidence in the talent of the Harambee Starlets and praised the timely release of midfielder Sheryl Angai for the crucial match.
He thanked CDF General Ogolla for accepting the plea to release Angai from training to join the team. Namwamba concluded by encouraging fans to support the Starlets and assured assistance from the government to all national teams in their pursuit of trophies.
