The stage is set for the grand finale of the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tour, with 260 golfers gearing up to tee off at the prestigious Sigona Golf Club on December 6, 2024.
This marks the culmination of an 11-month journey that has left an indelible mark on the golfing landscape of Kenya and the broader East African region.
The tour, which reached over 3,000 participants and introduced 1,500 juniors to the sport through golf clinics, has been celebrated for fostering talent, promoting inclusivity, and solidifying East Africa’s position as a golfing powerhouse.
Over the course of the year, the KCB Golf Tour made stops in 20 counties across Kenya and expanded its reach to four East African nations—Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda. In Kenya, the tour visited iconic courses in Mombasa, Kisumu, Machakos, Nakuru, Kericho, Nyeri, Kilifi, and Kiambu, among others, bringing the sport closer to enthusiasts across diverse regions.
“The KCB Golf Series has been a transformative force in the growth of golf in Kenya and beyond,” noted golfer James Muraguri. “It has provided countless players with opportunities to hone their skills and enjoy world-class courses, while also introducing the game to communities who might not otherwise have had access to it.”
The finale promises to be a high-stakes affair, with the winning club set to receive a KSh 1 million cash reward to support a sustainability initiative of their choice. Additionally, the victorious team will earn a coveted spot at the 2025 Magical Kenya Ladies Open, scheduled to take place at the Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County.
This year’s series also stood out for its inclusivity, hosting three caddies-only tournaments at Mombasa Golf Club, Nakuru, and Ruiru Sports Club. This initiative, aimed at recognizing the vital role caddies play in the sport, gave them a platform to showcase their skills and enjoy the game.
KCB’s significant investment in the tour reflects its commitment to community development and inclusivity. Speaking on the success of the 2024 edition, KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gishuru, highlighted the bank’s role in elevating the sport and creating lasting impact.
“Our aim has always been to uplift the communities we serve, and the 2024 KCB Golf Tour has exceeded our expectations,” she said. “Engaging with over 3,000 participants and introducing 1,500 juniors to the game aligns with our mission to inspire the next generation of golfers.”
The tour has also been a launchpad for young talent, with junior golfer Ryan Tolgos emerging as one of the standout players. Tolgos, the son of former Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Engineer Alex Tolgos, dazzled audiences with his performance, carding 49 stableford points to clinch victory in the Eldoret leg. Other notable names who left their mark include Amos Butit, Maureen Mundia, Kunal Chandaria, and Victor Muhando, among others.
As the curtains fall on the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tour, the grand finale is set to celebrate not only the winners but also the spirit of inclusivity, community, and sporting excellence that has defined this year’s journey. With golfers, fans, and stakeholders eagerly awaiting the action at Sigona, the finale promises to be a fitting end to a landmark year for golf in East Africa.
