Erling Haaland, the sensational striker of Manchester City, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first player ever to win both the Premier League Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards in a single season.
The 22-year-old Norwegian’s extraordinary tally of 36 goals has shattered the previous Premier League record for most goals in a season. In fact, Haaland’s overall goal count for the campaign stands at an impressive 52.
Expressing his gratitude, Haaland said, “I feel deeply honoured to be the first player to receive both awards in the same season. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who voted for me.”
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, Haaland has played a pivotal role in helping the club secure their third consecutive Premier League title.
Moreover, he has already been honoured as the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) men’s footballer of the year.
Reflecting on his debut season in the Premier League, Haaland shared, “It has been an incredible journey, and the moment of lifting the trophy in front of our fans at the Etihad last weekend was truly special to me.”
Manchester City’s remarkable season continues, as they are now poised to compete for the prestigious Treble. The team will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3, followed by a clash against Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10.
Acknowledging the collective effort, Haaland humbly credited his teammates, manager, and the entire club staff for their crucial support in his achievements.
He emphasized, “These awards would not have been possible without the incredible contributions of my teammates and the unwavering support from the manager and staff. Together, we aim to finish the season on a high note as we gear up for the remaining two finals.”
Haaland’s historic achievement highlights his immense talent and potential, solidifying his position as one of the most electrifying young talents in the world of football.
