Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray displayed a remarkable performance as they propelled their team to a convincing 109-94 victory over the Miami Heat, seizing a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
Jokic showcased his brilliance by notching an extraordinary triple-double of 32 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists. In doing so, he etched his name in the record books as the first player to achieve a 30-point, 20-rebound, and 10-assist triple-double in an NBA Finals game.
Not to be outdone, Murray contributed a triple-double of his own, securing 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in the final moments of the game. Their exceptional performances marked the first instance of teammates recording triple-doubles in the same NBA Finals match and the first time both players achieved 30-point triple-doubles in a game throughout the season.
Nuggets head coach Michael Malone hailed their remarkable display, describing it as “undoubtedly their greatest performance as a duo during their seven-year tenure together.”
“I’m never surprised by anything he does,” Malone praised Jokic. “He has consistently proven that he thrives in these crucial moments.”
Malone also lauded Murray’s fearless approach, stating, “Jamal excels under pressure and embraces these defining moments, which is a rarity among players.”
The Miami Heat, led by Jimmy Butler’s 28 points and Bam Adebayo’s 22 points and 17 rebounds, faced a 21-point deficit during the game. The contest drew a star-studded crowd that included five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson, footballers Neymar and Paul Pogba, and singer Shakira.
The series will resume on Friday (01:30 BST Saturday) at the Kaseya Center in Miami. While the Nuggets have yet to clinch an NBA Championship, the Heat are vying to become the first eighth-seeded team to achieve this remarkable feat.
