In a significant transfer move, Juventus has officially acquired Timothy Weah from Lille on a permanent deal. The American international, following in the footsteps of his father, legendary footballer George Weah, will be joining Serie A.

The announcement came through a statement released by Juventus, stating, “Timothy Weah has officially become a Juventus player. The American arrives on a permanent deal from Lille.”

Replacing Juan Cuadrado, the Colombian winger set to depart as a free agent, Weah is expected to make a significant impact with his talent and potential.

Weah Sr., who claimed the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in 1995, enjoyed a successful career with clubs such as Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan. He secured league titles in 1996 and 1999 with AC Milan and held the position of Africa’s top scorer in Serie A until Victor Osimhen surpassed his record last season.

Weah Jr., aged 23, has already made his mark on the international stage, representing the United States 29 times and scoring four goals.

This signing marks Juventus’ first edition of the summer, as they aim to rebuild after a challenging season. The club finished seventh in Serie A due to a 10-point deduction for illicit transfer activity, which has jeopardized their European football prospects, despite securing a spot in the Europa Conference League.

Additionally, Juventus faces the potential of a one-season ban from European competitions by UEFA, as allegations of misleading the governing body during negotiations for a “settlement agreement” related to Financial Fair Play violations loom over the club.

In their quest for rejuvenation, Juventus is keen on securing Cristiano Giuntoli as their new sporting director. Giuntoli, renowned for building successful Napoli teams, including last season’s Scudetto winners, brings valuable experience in maintaining financial stability while constructing competitive squads.

While Giuntoli still has a year remaining on his contract with Napoli, he aims to spearhead Juventus’ summer transfer operations. The club has faced financial challenges, posting losses for five consecutive years, with their most recent annual accounts showing a deficit of €254.3 million ($277.4 million).

With the signing of Timothy Weah and potential changes in the management structure, Juventus hopes to reestablish their dominance in Italian and European football, striving for a prosperous future.
