Kabras Sugar secured the Dala 7s title with a dominant 24-5 win over Menengai Oilers at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday evening, marking their second trophy in this year’s National Sevens Circuit (NSC).

The sugar millers got off to a flying start with Patrick Lumumba scoring the opening try in the second minute, which Jackson Siketa successfully converted. Siketa then added to the tally with a try of his own, though James Olela missed the conversion.

Just before halftime, William Muhanji crossed the line for another try, with Siketa adding the extras to give Kabras a commanding 17-0 lead at the break.

Menengai Oilers briefly rallied with a try from Dennis Abukuse in the 12th minute to cut the deficit. However, Kabras sealed their victory when Siketa scored his second try of the match, followed by a successful conversion from Olela, securing the final score at 24-5.

In the third-place playoff, Kenya Harlequin edged Masinde Muliro 22-19, ensuring they didn’t return to Nairobi empty-handed. Masinde Muliro struck first with Josephat Omulefu’s try and conversion in the third minute, but Amon Wamalwa responded for Quins, although he missed the conversion.

Quins took the lead before halftime with a try from Brian Ratila, making it 10-7 at the break. Ratila then scored his second try at the start of the second half, followed by a try from national Under-20 captain Patrick Wainaina, extending the lead to 20-7. Masinde Muliro fought back with two tries from Musa Mugandi, with Cyprian Ombaso converting one to set up a tense finish, but Quins held on to their lead.

In the fifth-place playoff, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) rebounded from their 12-5 quarterfinal loss to Quins by thrashing Nondies 31-0. Austin Sikutwa led the charge with a hattrick, while Jacob Ojee and Lionel Anjeliti each scored a brace, with Brian Wahinya also getting on the scoresheet.

Strathmore University Leos claimed the Challenger final with a 24-10 victory over Kabete Stallions, while Homeboyz RFC took home the Shield trophy after defeating Zetech University Oaks 17-10.

The National Sevens Circuit action returns to Nairobi for the Kabeberi Sevens at the RFUEA Grounds on August 24-25.
